Dixie is not only well saturated in colour and contrast, but also well framed in its balanced composition. ~MidEngine4Life photographs the train in all its glorious splendour and vibrant history. It is interesting to see a model such as this from the front with the smoke adding more to the profundity of this piece. ( Featured by 3wyl )
my grandpa would have loved to see this
Nice train, beautiful photo.
That's quite an interesting engine. On most steam engines the boiler is normally in the centre
Great picture, the red grabs me! What a unique train... I am not an expert on trains but really dig the offset design so the operator can see!
This is a "Shay" type geared locomotive. It has large pistons along the right side that work much the engine in your car does.
Congrats on "Dixiana" getting on the Daily Deviations page! I hope to visit Roaring Camp at some point!
Wow. That's a Different place for the Smotebox of the Loco!
Congratulations on the daily deviation! Beautiful looking locomotive.
I thought this looked familiar! I moved from Felton to Ben Lomond a few months ago, but you can still hear the train whistles from Roaring Camp.
Very well done. Makes me hum the Josh Turner hit song, "Long Black Train".
very cool, great photo
I always loved the design of the Climax-A though I think it would have been improved with a three cylinder (balenced) engine. The Shay had a problem staying on the tracks due to the drive shafts binding on curves.
Very beautiful colors and detail!
love that pic
What kind of lens did you use for this? It looks like a telephoto.
I honestly dont remember lol. I shot and uploaded this photo a while ago. I can at least tell you its a possiblilty. I usually bring both my lenses around with me.
I'm curious as to which line is involved. As a long time rail fan, I thought I was familiar with most North American steam, but now I am not so sure. Well done at any rate.
Okay, I must have missed the listings in Trains Annual Guides. We may be seeing some mainline steam in a couple of weeks. I live just south of the NS, ex-Nickle Plate, mainline from Cleveland, Ohio, to Buffalo, NY, and may go the NS steam trip on the west side of Cleveland. I may have a couple of steam shots from the AC&J here locally.
Steamtrains are great! On german TV there was for over twenty years a weekly Series called "Railway Romanctic". There were a lot of reports from Railways from all over the world and from Steam or other classic events in Germany and Europe. Pity that its not airing anymore.
Well framed and love the colors!
- Congrats on the DD!
Have a nice day!
Gdzie ten świat?
Nice! Only slightly concerned that there's smoke coming out of that and you're on the rails!
Nostalgic.......... & Vivid too........
Congrats on the Daily Deviation!
impressive old girl. there are not many old.....i am presuming a Shay since i cannot see the gear...... operational or preserved in the world. Here in Australia there is a 2ft gauge two truck at the Ipswich railway Workshops for restoration to static, there is one down at the Puffing Billy Railway in a static condition, plus they have a Climax that they are restoring.
